(UPDATE) 2 7.3.1.3 Transition Between PWM and PFM Modes The PWM mode operation with phase-adding and shedding optimizes efficiency at mid to full load at the expense of light-load efficiency. The LP8733xx-Q1 converter operates in the PWM mode at load current of about 600 mA or higher. At lighter load current levels the device automatically switches into the PFM mode for reduced current consumption when forced PWM mode is disabled (AUTO mode operation). By combining the PFM and the PWM modes, a high efficiency is achieved over a wide output-load current range. 7.3.1.4 Dual-Phase Switcher Configurations The LP8733xx-Q1 device supports the following regulator configurations: • Single dual-phase configuration, Buck0 is master (Buck0 and Buck1) • Two single-phase configuration (Buck0 and Buck1) In the dual-phase configuration the control of the dual-phase regulator settings is done using the control registers of the master buck. The following slave registers are ignored: • The BUCK1_CTRL_1 (except the EN_RDIS1 bit) • The BUCK1_CTRL_2 (except the ILIM1[2:0] bits) • The BUCK1_VOUT • The BUCK1_DELAY • The Interrupt bits related to the slave buck (except the BUCK1_ILIM_INT) 7.3.1.5 Buck Converter Load Current Measurement The buck load current can be monitored through I2C registers. The monitored buck converter is selected with the LOAD_CURRENT_BUCK_SELECT bit in the SEL_I_LOAD register. A write to this selection register starts a current measurement sequence. The regulator is automatically forced to the PWM mode for the measurement period. The measurement sequence is 50 µs long, maximum. 2 Graph is not in scale and is for illustrative purposes only.
