Oscillators

Variousoscillatoroptionsoffertheuserawiderangeoffunctionsaccordingtotheirvarious

applicationrequirements.Theflexiblefeaturesoftheoscillatorfunctionsensurethatthebest

optimisationcanbeachievedintermsofspeedandpowersaving.Oscillatorselectionsandoperation

areselectedthroughrelevantcontrolregisters.

Oscillator Overview

Inadditiontobeingthesourceofthemainsystemclocktheoscillatorsalsoprovideclocksources

fortheWatchdogTimerandTimeBaseInterrupts.Twofullyintegratedinternaloscillators,requiring

noexternalcomponents,areprovidedtoformawiderangeofbothfastandslowsystemoscillators.

Thehigherfrequencyoscillatorprovideshigherperformancebutcarrywithitthedisadvantageof

higherpowerrequirements,whiletheoppositeisofcoursetrueforthelowerfrequencyoscillator.

Withthecapabilityofdynamicallyswitchingbetweenfastandslowsystemclock,thisdevicehas

theflexibilitytooptimizetheperformance/powerratio,afeatureespeciallyimportantinpower

sensitiveportableapplications.

systemoscillatorisimplementedusingtheCKS2~CKS0bitsintheSCCregisterandasthesystem

clockcanbedynamicallyselected.
