SYNCHRONOUS SERIAL

PORT (SSP) MODULE

11.1

SSP Module Overview

The Synchronous Serial Port (SSP) module is a serial

interface useful for communicating with other peripheral

or microcontroller devices. These peripheral devices

may be Serial EEPROMs, shift registers, display driv-

ers, A/D converters, etc. The SSP module can operate

in one of two modes:

• Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI)

• Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C)

The SSP module in I2C mode works the same in all

PIC16C6X devices that have an SSP module. However

the SSP Module in SPI mode has differences between

the PIC16C66/67 and the other PIC16C6X devices.

The register deﬁnitions and operational description of

SPI mode has been split into two sections because of

the differences between the PIC16C66/67 and the

other PIC16C6X devices. The default reset values of

both the SPI modules is the same regardless of the

device:
